THC & SEX!? TELL ME MORE PLEASE
Cannabis has been used for centuries for multiple reasons, including enhancing sexuality, sexual intimacy and connection. It’s definitely true that the experience will be different for everyone, especially depending on different factors like consumption method, intention, each person’s individual physical attributes, strain, product, etc. However, I think if a person goes into the experience as prepared and informed as possible, they may notice some differences in their sexual encounters after bringing cannabis into the mix.
Let's explore the things you need to know to prepare yourself for a THC-infused sexual experience.
1. Self-Awareness and Mindset:
Before incorporating THC into your sexual encounters, it's crucial to be in tune with your body and emotions. You especially need to know how you react, physically, mentally, emotionally, etc, after consuming cannabis in some way. With that in mind, make sure to reflect on your intentions, desires, and expectations. Understand that the effects of THC can vary from person to person and even from one experience to another. Adopt an open and exploratory mindset, free from rigid expectations, to fully embrace and glean something from each experience.
2. Dosage and Timing:
Finding the right dosage and timing is also something to consider when combining sex and protection, such as condoms or dental dams, if necessary (but make sure they’re compatible with your lube or oil if you’re using it). Remember that cannabis might alter your perception, so it's crucial to make informed decisions and maintain open communication throughout the experience.
As you venture into the realm of THC-infused sex, it's important to approach cannabis. Whether you’re smoking, eating an edible or using an infused lube, make sure to start with a low dosage (or amount) and gradually increase it until you find the desired effect. Remember that the onset and duration of THC can vary based on consumption method and individual factors. Make sure you’re giving yourself enough time for it to take effect before engaging in sexual activity, especially when it comes to topicals – some can take up to 20 minutes to take effect. Be patient or plan ahead, because rushing the experience may result in missed opportunities to fully savor the sensations.
3. Communication with Your Partner:
Open and honest communication with your partner is crucial when exploring THC-infused sex. Discuss your desires, boundaries, and expectations openly before embarking on this journey together. Especially if you’re smoking or taking edibles, be sure to discuss how you both react when you use cannabis (i.e. how you get when you’re high). From there, ensure you both consent and feel comfortable with the idea. Sharing your thoughts, concerns, and desires can strengthen your connection and foster a more satisfying and pleasurable experience.
4. Experimentation and Sensual Exploration:
According to the research, THC has the potential to enhance sensations, intensify pleasure, and elevate sensory experiences (which could possibly mean stronger, more satisfying) orgasms. We don’t know exactly why this happens, but many experts think that cannabis acts as a vasodilator, meaning that it increases blood flow. The theory is that increased blood flow to certain areas can increase or enhance sensation in that area. If you want to be really intentional, consider engaging in sensual foreplay; experiment with different touches and sensations, allowing yourself to be fully present in the moment. Increased sensation is one of the biggest reasons why people combine sex and cannabis; if you’ve ever heard people say “it just feels better,” this is why.
5. Incorporating Cannabis-Infused Products:
If you want to experience the enhanced sensation without the high, look into cannabis-infused sexuall wellness products. Many people report both increased sensation and decreased pain during sex after using products like infused lubes, serums and massage oils. Look into brands like Foria Wellness and Engerotics to start.
6. Safe Practices and Consent:
Just like in any sexual encounter, safety and consent should always be prioritized. Ensure you and your partner have discussed and agreed upon boundaries and safe practices. Incorporate it with curiosity, self-awareness, and open communication with your partner. Understanding that everyone's experiences can differ will help you navigate this unique journey with an open mind. Remember to experiment, explore sensual pleasures, and prioritize consent and safety. Embrace the possibilities and enjoy the new dimensions that THC can bring to your intimate moments.
Disclaimer: THC affects individuals differently, and its use may have legal restrictions in some regions. It's important to consult local laws and regulations before engaging in any THC-infused activities.
